7 days in NO, Aug. 10-17th

So we just booked our trip to NO for a week at Club La Pension.

We will be gambling drinking and eat.. is there anything else to do in the daytime????

Tours? shows? must sees?

7 days in NO, Aug. 10-17th

You may want to take a guided walking tour of the FQ.

I enjoyed the National Park Service tour. You must make reservations the same day. They open at 9:00, and your entire party must be present to get your place in the group tour. If I remember, it%26#39;s about an hour to an hour and a half long. The rangers are very knowledgeable, and will answer any questions.

For info and a map:

Also stroll Royal Street and check out all the wonderful shops and antique stores.

If you have an interest in photography check out A Gallery for Fine Photography on Chartres:

7 days in NO, Aug. 10-17th

Mardi Gras World, Imax, Aquarium, Zoo, Cabildo, Presbytere,1850 House, Gallier House, Beauregard Keyes House, Ursuline Convent,Plantation Tours, Katrina Tours, walking tours of the FQ, mule %26amp; buggy ride, cemetary tours, people watching, swimming in the hotel pool, recovering from the night before, french market, artists in Jackson Square, Royal St. antiques and artwork, shopping in so many stores on Decatur or Magazine St. And then for the second day....

Just be sure to take it easy during the afternoon hours when it%26#39;s hot. We are under a ';heat advisory'; for the next 10 days or so, with heat indexes between 105-110. It%26#39;s HOT, even at night. :-(

Good news is that crowds are lighter and nearly all stores, bars and restaurants are air conditioned. Besides, when you%26#39;re sitting in the shade having a beer it%26#39;s not too bad anyway!

Just FYI Mardi Gras world is in Algiers, not in the FQ. Unless you%26#39;re renting a car I would skip it.

If you type in ';tour'; in the search box you will get lots of good info, this topic was recently discussed at length.

Have a great time!!

Mardi Gras World is easy to get to via the Algiers Ferry (Freee) that goes to the landing and theres a free shuttle to Mardi Gras world. It has the Blaine Kern%26#39;s present and past floats and you can costume up and eat King Cake. Its a nice change of pace. You pick up the free shuttle at the voodoo shop for the trip back. TGhe ferry runs very regularly each day.

go to jackson square and people watch. unless you%26#39;re under the heat advisory. then grab a beer, sit in the shade, and people watch!

Take a swamp airboat tour, I do it every year %26amp; i live here. it%26#39;s really fun!

Also, walk around the Garden District %26amp; look at the houses %26amp; gardens. Then go down to Magazine street for shopping %26amp; sitting outside for a drink (there%26#39;s great stores all up magazine to Nashville st., the best section is probably between Washington %26amp; Louisiana st). Also stop by the Columns Hotel %26amp; have a drink out on their front porch overlooking saint charles ave, then venture down to the delachaise, also on Saint Charles for a drink or some tapas.

I would also recommend going to Audubon park on the river is really pretty %26amp; the zoo is there.

While in the quarter go to the rooftop of the Omni Royal hotel for a drink at the bar %26amp; to watch the sunset. They have a pool which locals often sneak %26amp; use because they also have showers up there. :)

Nothing like the sound of an airboat when you are recovering from the night before. Beware they are extremely noisy and many %26#39;drivers%26#39; think its their duty to turn it into a %26#39;thrill%26#39; ride. OK..I%26#39;m an environmentalist and do not like what the airboats do to the swamp areas and marshlands and habitats of many water and land animals.

I hate airboats too. They are the worst kind of swamp tour if you want to actually see animals or enjoy the beauty of the swamp. When I was a kid, we%26#39;d go out in the bayous/swamps near Lafayette to explore, watch birds and gators, fish, etc. Airboats often ruined the silence of the place.

I guess if you want the ';fun'; thrill ride and can%26#39;t visit a Six Flags, then the airboat is a good option.

Strongly suggest doing the NO Cooking School - $27, every day from 10-12:30. Lots of laughs, great food, drinks. It%26#39;s a real cooking school so you%26#39;ll learn how to make gumbo, jambalya [sp], pralines, bread pudding. Also stroll Jackson Square and the French Market - take the St Charles tram into the Garden district. Have a great trip - but be careful, I%26#39;ve been listening to CNN this evening and murders have been rampant in NO this year - 4 this week - so far....

I%26#39;ll be there with my buddy, Tom, this weekend too.
