I%26#39;ve had good french onion soup at Arnaud%26#39;s and at Dickie Brennans Steakhouse...but strangely enough I used to like it best at the many years defunct Houlihan%26#39;s.

French onion isn%26#39;t as popular here as it is in many places. I do know that Muriel%26#39;s has a nice version but I usually pass on it in favor of turtle soup or gumbo.

If you don%26#39;t mind a short trip out of the French Quarter, try Cafe Degas on Esplanade Avenue.
