travel dates decided, now where to stay?

Thanks to those of you who replied to my earlier post about when to bring our grandkidskids in December, before or after Christmas. The decision has been taken out of my hands now, because the parents have said that they don%26#39;t want their kids gone on Christmas, so we will be arriving in New Orleans on December 27th, leaving January 1st.

Now I have to decide where to stay and would like some opinons. We have decided on staying in a bed and breakfast or guest house since a hotel room would be kind of cramped for 5 and we can%26#39;t afford to get two hotel rooms. The places listed below have availability and are within our price range:

Suite Jazz on Frenchman - 2 room suite $150 per night

Creole Gardens in lower Garden Dist - 2 room suite, $179 per night

Villa Convento in French Quarter - 2 room loft suite, $145 per night

The Chimes in Garden District - 2 room loft suite, $190 per night

H H Whitney House on Esplanade - 2 room suite $190 per night

Olivier House also has vacancy but they haven%26#39;t given me the rates yet .

Any comments about any of these places or suggestions of other places that can accommodate five? I%26#39;m leaning toward staying 3 days at Villa Convento and 2 at Suite Jazz because both are close to all of the action and the owners have been very helpful on working with me about the rates. I have stayed at Villa convento several times and like it a lot, have not stayed at Suite Jazz. If anyone has stayed there, I%26#39;d appreciate hearing your experience.

I dont know where about the Jazz suites are on Frenchman, but I would check as it could get a bit noisey at night especially with children - I lover Frenchman by the way. If it above the washington park area it should be noise free. I think I did read some comments on the Jazz suites on trip advisor hotels.

Thanks paulinen...actually when I spoke to the proprieter of Jazz Suites, she wanted to make sure that we realized that there would be a lot of noise from nearby jazz clubs (Snug Harbor is right next door) and I told her that actually appeals to me. Since the granddaughters won%26#39;t be able to go into any clubs because of being underage, the fact that we will be able to hear some music anyway is a bonus and it won%26#39;t bother my husband and I; the girls will think it%26#39;s great. I read the review on TA and they were kind of mixed...the accommodations got good reviews but a couple of people had problems with reservations.

I wouldn%26#39;t assume that your granddaughters will automatically be excluded because of age, especially since you%26#39;ll be accompanying them. Many clubs are lenient about admitting underage patrons if they%26#39;re accompanied by parents and/or guardians. There%26#39;s usualy no problem with establishments that also serve meals, such as Snug Harbor and Palm Court Jazz Cafe, which is within easy and safe walking distance of where you%26#39;ll be staying. If the crowd isn%26#39;t too raucous, you can also hang out near the door of the Spotted Cat, just across the street, and easily hear the music.

You should also check out Adolfo%26#39;s, which is one of our favorite restaurants, located on the opposite side of the street and in the same block as Snug Harbor. It%26#39;s above the Apple Barrel Bar, just across the street from Electric Ladyland Tattoo Parlor. Get a window seat at Adolfo%26#39;s and you might actually see someone ';going under the needle.';

Rodin, thanks, that is great to know that they will be able to go some places where this is music. I knew that they can to go Mulates but I didn%26#39;t know they would be able to go to any of the jazz clubs. That is really good news. I have never been to Snug Harbor so I%26#39;ll be looking forward to that. That%26#39;s for the restaurant recommendation, too..I hadn%26#39;t heard of that place before.

Hi jlr,

I%26#39;ve stayed in the loft rooms at the villa convento before and they might be a nice option. The loft up top is certainly not spacious but the kids would probably find it really cool, and it%26#39;s easy for you all to keep an ear on them. The hotel is in a great location near the french market area and there is a fabulous bakery right across the street for breakfast / light lunch. how old are the kids??? the stairs in the loft room were kind of a tight spiral.........fine as long as your careful but would be extra careful w/ the kids. good luck choosing!

Hi Yankeefan, thanks for the advice about Villa Convento. The girls are 8, 12 and 15 and would probably think the lift is really neat. My husband and I have stayed at Villa Convento several times (never with kids) and we definitely like the owners and the location. I think that we will probably choose to spend 2 nights at Suite Jazz (suite with kitchen and 2 bedrooms) and the other 3 nights at Villa Convento. That%26#39;s my current plan, anyway.
