It looks like its going to rain practically every day im in NO... :(
Can someone tell me what the rain is like there.. is it an all day thing.. mostly mornings, afternoons.. what can i expect and what are the best ways to ';beat'; the rain so it doesnt ruin my vacation.
How Do I Beat The Rain?Awww a little rain will not ruin your vacation! Just go into some museums on the rainiest days.
Have a plan. If it doesn%26#39;t rain go walking around the quarter, and if it does go to Mardi Grad world or the WWII museum, and then do the walking the next day. The first time I went it rained like cats and dogs but people in New Orleans know how to have fun no matter what the weather situation, and I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;ll rub off on you.
And hey, a little rain never hurt anyone! I live in Cleveland and we don%26#39;t even let blizzards get in the way of tailgating at Browns stadium in the middle of December!
How Do I Beat The Rain?If it rains, just duck into a bar and hear some great jazz or blues, or like Tanya said, to go Mardi Gras World, or you could do some shopping at JaxFest or Riverwalk, take a ride on the Canal Street street car, etc. I imagine that rain in the summer time in New Orleans is welcome in order to cool it off a bit.
One year when I was there for Mardi Gras, it poured down rain on Fat Tuesday morning and I was sure that the whole day was ruined, but the sun came out around 11 a.m., the parades just rolled late, and it turned out to be a beautiful day.
When I looked at the forcast it was rain every day. We were really lucky,it hammered down for a few hours 1st day and over the next 5 i think we had a few drops on one day. It was a bit cloudy a few days. Trust me - you will be glad of the rain - it cools things down
If you can deal with the rain in Miami, you can deal with it here. Duck indoors and wait it out! If it%26#39;s an all-day thing when a front%26#39;s moving through the area, not much you can do about it whether in New Orleans or anywhere else!
Umbrella
thanks all.. in miami when it rains.. it ususally hits in the afternoon.. so you can sort of prepare for it.. thats really waht i was asking.. I wont let it effect me too bad.. but i am looking forward to the zoo and some other outdoor type activites.. especially since i have a couple kids with me...
thanks again..
almost there!
24 hours from now i will be on Bourbon Street!
If it%26#39;s typical summer rain, there will be some scattered showers in the afternoon.
This past week, though, we had some torrential downpours that lasted a few days.
Unless it%26#39;s a real stormy day, the rains don%26#39;t seem to last very long, and when predicted, maybe off and on short showers a coujple times during the day.
Yes, carry a small folding umbrella. If caught without, you can bet all the souvineer stores will have them on display right at the door. I just wear a floppy brimmed waterproof hat, and a slightly wet shirt will quickly dry i the heat. ANd half of the walks in the Quarter are under balconies, so do the balcony dash from one to the next. For the more rare heavy downpour, it won%26#39;t last long. ';One more beer here!';
Several years ago, while we were at Jazzfest, the skies opened up and it began to pour. It rained harder than I think I%26#39;ve ever seen rain and we were thinking, ';They are going to have to start the evacuations soon';.
Being from Los Angeles, we don%26#39;t see a lot of rain (almost none this year) and when we do, our natural reaction is to PANIC (';Stormwatch!!! Film at 11:00!!!).
After about 45 minutes, the skies cleared. Less than a minute later, you could hear music coming from every corner of the fairgrounds.
Rain can%26#39;t spoil your fun. New Orleans won%26#39;t let it!
It normally rains for about an hour every day here. Usually between lunch and fiveish. It won%26#39;t ruin anything. In fact, we love how it breaks the heat for a minute!
