I will be attending a conference at the Sheraton on Canal street in July. When I called to book my room the girl I spoke with told me that there was a W hotel within a couple of blocks and it was much nicer. What I am wondering is whether this is a truth, and how far the distance is between the two? Also, I plan to stay a few days extra and enjoy some nightlife... Which hotel would be the safest to walk to .. and which is nearest to the best restaurants and fun places to be? I want to have a great New Orleans experience, but for the price of these two hotels, I want the most for my dollar! Thanks for any advice you could give me.
Sheraton on Canal Street or the W nearby?Personally check out the Hotel Monteleone. It is located on Royal Street and a very short walk to Canal Street and then a short 3 or 4 block walk to the Sheraton. The Monteleone is a great location - one block to Bourbon and the restaurants are all close. I walked Canal Street and it reminded me of NYC. Pull up the maps for both hotels and compare the distance. To me the W is on the other side of Canal and the walk to things in the French Quarter would just be a pain.
Sheraton on Canal Street or the W nearby? There is a W in the french quarter
The W hotels are ';modern'; decorwise but I am unsure either is nicer than the Sheraton. If the price is the same, try the W on Poydras. If not, stay at the Sheraton.
Hotel rates are very low in July in New Orleans due to it being off season for conventions and festivals...Many excellent hotels in the French Quarter and CBD, (Central Business District) for $79 / day or less. All of these are within easy walking distance to great restaurants, music venues, historic sites and tours.
Don%26#39;t know which one is nicer, but Sheraton on Canal has a better location than W regarding FQ. Practically next door to Sheraton is JW Marriott, which based on first hand knowledge definitely is nice. Sheraton and JW Marriott are safe to walk to from FQ.
Hi.
I%26#39;ve stayed at both the sheraton and W on poydras.
IMHO the sheraton is a bit corporate(not that there is anything
wrong with that) And that W is modern but a bit generic. I will say though, that the W had THE most confortable bed.
But I second the monteleone. Family run for decades, a beautiful
lobby and the bar is one of the best in NO.
Location of the monteleone is also ideal, You will be just in the quarter and one and a half blocks to the sheraton.
And even though I believe nola is a safe place to be in general,
The cental business district (CBD) can get a little quiet at night
If you know what I mean
Lastly, the monteleone is far enough away from burbon st
to be peaceful at night. but still close to everything going on
I have not stayed at the Sheraton or the W on Poydras. I have stayed at the W in the Quarter and I thought it was great. The one negative about it is the rooms are small. The bathrooms are big and the beds are very comfortable. They also have one of the nicest courtyards. The staff was very attentive when I was there. If you are looking to be close to the night life in the quarter then this would be the best of the three IMO. The rooms have gumball machines too.
The nightlife is very close at the W in the quarter and a frequent complaint is the parties in the courtyard that get quite loud and the management lets it go on. It was true both times we stayed there and saw other complaints similar to that. The Sheraton is nice and the Prince Conti is only a couple short blocks away. There are so many fine restaurants nearby and also casual popular places.
The FQ is an easy walk as the blocks are very short.
I just stayed at the Sheraton last May. Location = excellent, room = a bit run down, walls = thin. I scored a tremendous deal for the room on Hotwire and would stay there again for $105/night.
I%26#39;ve been in the W and it%26#39;s nicer than the Sheraton.
The Monteleone is very nice, with a fantastic location and great bar off the lobby.
We paid this month 119 USD/night for JW Marriot including breakfast (they charge like 25 USD/person for it if that%26#39;s not included) and their property is in good shape. It sure is an off-season.
