I will be in New Orleans the weekend of July 13th, piggybacking along while my boyfriend attends a work conference (hehe). Anyway, I have absolutely no idea how to entertain myself during the days and also, what fun things there are to do for young couples (I%26#39;m in my mid-20%26#39;s) at night. I know we%26#39;re staying very near the Morial Convention Center, and I know the French Quarter is a hot spot, but can anyone help point me in the right direction? Its my first time to the city. I%26#39;d appreciate anything! :)
New Orleans first timer!
We%26#39;re staying at the Marriott Convention Center, if that helps...
New Orleans first timer!
During the days there is alot to see and do in N.O., but it is all about what you are into. My wife loves touring the city, window shopping along ';Royal'; and other streets, but just leave the credit card in the hotel otherwise you might find yourself buying alot of interesting things, like my wife, lol. The Aquarium, the zoo, boat tours, etc are alot of fun, but a little tough when your by yourself, cause of the memories and all. The night life, well that is just wild..... Bourbon street is just an amazing place to enjoy the crazy flavour of N.O.. You can also try a horse and buggy ride at night, that is an amazing way to enjoy the night while having some romantic memories. Have fun, New Orleans is like no city I have ever visited, steeped in history and a very different feel unlike any other U.S. city I%26#39;ve been to. It definatly grows on you thats why we are leaving yet again this week to come down, 3 times in less than a year, lol....
Uhhhh Ohhhh we got ourselves a virgin!
If you have the time, do a forum search for trip reports. A lot of them have good info on things you might want to do. See, I%26#39;m lucky, I%26#39;m a secretary and my boss is always playing golf so I stalk tripadvisor all the time to pass my days
Stalking for other TA members who mispell names !!! :)
galinda, you%26#39;ll have a blast. if it were me (even if I were female)...I%26#39;d say adios to my boyfriend %26amp; take a taxi to the Quarter %26amp; window shop Royal St. drop in a few shops, bars, hotel lobbies, oyster bars, etc. there%26#39;s plenty to see off Bourbon. save it for the PM.
if you%26#39;re husband hasn%26#39;t been before, you%26#39;ll be his tourguide when you return after he%26#39;s done conferencing! there is the Riverfront Mall down near the Harra%26#39;s casino, and the Aquarium, which you can spend lots of time in %26amp; around. usually some outdoor bands or something going on down by the river. grab a sandwich %26amp; watch the river roll by.
back towards St. Louis Cathedral you%26#39;ll see plenty of street performers %26amp; the like, down near where the carriage rides start %26amp; end. you can go to Cafe Du Monde %26amp; have some beinets to start your day, then tour the French Mkt. %26amp; all of what Decatur St. has to offer (J.Buffett%26#39;s Margaritaville Cafe, Coop%26#39;s Place, etc). talk to some local shop owners %26amp; waiters/waitresses for tips, locations, etc. lots to explore!
I agree w/ searching for prior posts/trip reports on here for restaurant, sight-seeing options. Also, a very helpful website is www.nola.com for weekly schedules and events. Have fun!!!!!
Faubourg-Marigny area for music also..its become the in place for the music, food, and crowd since Katrina.
Thought I%26#39;d use the chance to plug my New Orleans GoList - maybe it%26#39;ll give you some good ideas:

Hope you have a great trip!
Thank you all so much for your wonderful suggestions and comments! I definitely plan to make a ';must-see'; list of things to do and I%26#39;ll poke around the forum for other suggestions. Anyone have a favorite place to eat and listen to good music?
We%26#39;re both into good food, good drink, and good music. We%26#39;re pretty low key (not really into the super ';swank'; scene, if you know what I mean). I%26#39;d love to find a great place with some local flavor to take my man to when he gets off work.
Thanks for the suggestions, keep %26#39;em comin! :)
