Fun nightlife for married ';30 somethings';

At least 3 couples wanting some fun nightlife in French Quarter. We%26#39;re staying on Bourbon St at the Inn on Buorbon. We like people watching, dancing and Karaoke and enjoying drinks. I would like to try some drinks that are regional favorites. I know we must try Pat O%26#39;s Hurricane. Thanks!

For drinks, try the Woodford Plantation at Tujaque%26#39;s. Also, the Pimm%26#39;s Cup at Napoleon House. A Sazerac at the Carousel Bar is good too.

Go to Pirate%26#39;s Alley to have some Absinthe. There are 3 kinds of Absinthe drinks served there. One I remember is called ';Death in the afternoon.'; This is a very small bar right next to St. Louis Cathedral on a street called Pirate%26#39;s Alley.

I also recommend the Southern Comfort Cocktail Tour. You will get to sample many of New Orleans unique cocktails and learn some history.

Sounds great. Thanks for the link.

pirate%26#39;s alley also has (had?) a drink called a ';chupacabra'; which is kinda brutal, but unique. it%26#39;s made with chartreuse and lord knows what else! that is a cool low key bar. also try molly%26#39;s on decatur st. no karaoke,(for that go to cats meow o bourbon but its insanely crowded on weekends) but at least a mixed crowd, not all youn%26#39;uns out to get wasted! and a little further down (';lower';) decatur, you%26#39;ll find some more alternative places, not like bourbon... also of course if you like jazz or funk or other ';new orleans'; music head over to frenchmen st. just outside the FQ. other regional drinks... sazerac at lafitte%26#39;s, monsoon at port of call... mint julep but i dont know ay good ones in the quarter... hand grenades at tropical isle ($ but worth it, lightweights watch out) and at some point get your self a cafe au lait at cafe du monde of course... and a daiquiri... to go.

have fun!!

What was the name of the bar serving the Chupacabra? couldn%26#39;t find it on the net. Thanks

I was going to suggest the Tropical Isle too. It%26#39;s right across from your hotel and they have live music with a small dance floor. Nola Girl is not kidding when she says they pack a punch. Just read the little brochure they have.

The bar in Pirate%26#39;s Alley is a cool little pirate bar. I can%26#39;t remember the name of it but you can%26#39;t miss it. If you like the taste of black licorice you should try the Absinthe.

Head down to Jean Lafitte%26#39;s Blacksmith Shop. They usually have someone playing the piano. The bar has a great atmosphere. The hurricanes there are strong and a little different from Pat O%26#39;s. They are still good. The Voodoo Daiquiri is good too.

I give a second to visiting the Carousel Bar too at the Monteleone and the Pimm%26#39;s Cup at Napoleon House. Also try some Abita beer.

The name of the bar is Pirate%26#39;s Alley. Address is 622 Pirate%26#39;s Alley. It is tiny but a really cool place. Legend has it that Jean Lafitte (the pirate) used to hang out here.

Greyline offers a cocktail tour pretty much nightly. You go around the French quarter and go to different bars and get their stories, which was interesting for me. It%26#39;s only a few hours, but if you do it your first day or so you know what bars to go to in the future.

Aside from that, hand grenades are great, I like hurricane%26#39;s but they have another drink there that looks like a rainbow that tastes like kool-aid, and for kareoke go to the cat%26#39;s meow during happy hour, or whenever this black guy who wears under armor is the MC. He is the best one there, by far. He sings AC/DC so well you%26#39;d swear it was Brian Johnson!

have a good time!

porcupine150 - I%26#39;m curious about the Woodford Plantation at Tujaque%26#39;s. Is that Woodford as in Woodford Reserve?

What else is in it? And have you found it anywhere other than Tujague%26#39;s? I love bourbon in any (and all) forms, especially Old Fashioneds and mint juleps. TIA.

Tanya, my husband loves AC/DC. I will look for the underarmour guy.

Now, for the Absinthe, is it the real thing? I would like to try it but am confused whether the Absinthe is really Absinthe or is it Herbsinth?Help me with this !!

Absinthe has been illegal in the US since about 1915 or so. You will get Herbsaint which does not contain wormwood.
