First time to NO. Looking for some blues places instead of jazz, any ideas?

blues in NOZxylia presented some good choices. Blues can mean many things to many people (New Orleans Blues, Chicago Blues, St. Louis Blues, Mississippi Delta Blues, Jump Blues, etc.). If Tab Benoit is in the New Orleans area while you%26#39;re there, you should check him out.

Big Al.
The Apple Barrel on Frenchmen St. seems to have a lot of blues bands.
here is a site that lists music by date, genre and club:
http://www.offbeat.com/listings/clubs.php
also try the music listings at nola.com
Great site. Thanks!!
Thanks for all you input- I looked into several of those places and musicians. We leave on Fri for a week-can%26#39;t wait. We are staying at Club la Pension by Canal-Is it best to take a cab from Frenchman St. Is the crowd mostly young at the places on Frenchman-we aren%26#39;t.
If your staying by Canel your best bet to Frenchmen is either a cab or if you want some excerise take the trolly along the river to the end then walk up Esplande and cut over to Frenchmen. If your an avid walker you can walk the entire way but I think it will be too warm for that.
We went to Spotted Cat and Snug Harbor and age groups were mixed, this was for jazz.
I am also seeking to enjoy some blues while in NO on Labor day weekend. I checked the aforementioned sites and am getting conflicting info whether Big Al will be at FunkyPirate on Fri Aug 31st. Some listings have a Johnny Cash cover band performing. Does anybody know if Big Al plays EVERY Fri night at FunkyPirate?
Looks like (from the offbeat link) listed by Tyr above, that Big Al is just playing Tuesdays at the Funky Pirate through September.
Locals may know more...
