Just returned with grandma and kids

Just returned from weekend in NOLA with two kids (12,9), grandma, sister and her 12 yr old. The kids loved it! I promised to post when I got back, so here goes.

We NEVER ONCE felt unsafe. As with any place you go, of course, we kept a close eye on the kids and didn%26#39;t let them out of our sight, but never had any specific reason to.

Thanks again to everyone who made suggestions as to where we should eat. We ate Deanie%26#39;s for dinner Friday. They have a couple of different kid-friendly choices for $5.95, but you have to ask about it, it%26#39;s not on the menu. Also, my 9 yr old who is extremely finicky, did complain that the chicken strips were a bit spicy to her. Otherwise, it was very, very good!

Cafe du Monde for breakfast Saturday was a huge hit. We all enjoyed the beignets, and happened to get there just at the right time to avoid waiting for a table, as I have had to several times in the past.

The Aquarium and the IMAX are a must for anyone taking kids. The girls all enjoyed it tremendously. Allow at least 2 1/2 hours, and be sure not to miss the otter show at 2:00 (at least that%26#39;s what time it was for us).

Gordon Biersch Brewery was a great choice for dinner Saturday. Pizza, hamburgers, grilled cheese, etc. for the kids, and very hard to choose from the variety of choices for the adults as they all sounded wonderful. It is a chain and not necessarily authentic NOLA food, but still very good.

Cafe Beignet (just down the street from Cafe du Monde) was great for breakfast Sunday. They had waffles, beignets (different consistency than cafe du monde, with less sugar, but still really good!), fruit, french toast, and a couple of other items with eggs and bacon, all reasonably priced.

Sorry for such a long post, but I hope this helps anyone planning on a family trip. Again, we didn%26#39;t venture out to Bourbon street at night or anything, but were out after dark some and felt safe at all times. There are still police officers patrolling everywhere, which helps too.

Overall a fabulous trip that the kids enjoyed thoroughly (they didn%26#39;t want to come home!). And we all know how much more we, as parents, enjoy a trip when the kids are having fun!

Great trip report. I have taken my kids to NO several times and they love it. They loved the aquarium and Cafe Du Monde too.

I am planning to bring them at spring break next year.

Gilmergirl - Thanks for the report - I am bringing my 3 granddaughters in December for 5 nights. Did you stay right in the French Quarter?

Thanks for the great trip report!

We stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental on St. Charles, as I had free rooms from Harrah%26#39;s, and had stayed there before with my husband. It%26#39;s about 4-5 blocks from the Riverwalk Marketplace, but a pretty good walk to the French Market and Jackson Square. We were fine with it, but it may be a stretch for kids too big for strollers in that 5-7 age range.
