Hi there,
My husband and I are thinking of visiting NO and want to stay at the hotel that will give us the best chance of a ghostly experience. What would you recommend? I%26#39;ve already searched online and read stories, but I want to hear of experiences from real people first-hand.
Thanks!
Most haunted hotel?
I had some weird experiences at the Andrew Jackson Hotel. That was a long time ago we stayed there and I think its got bad reviews as of late. Still it was pretty spooky. Some of the ghost tours stop in front of it and tell stories. I would recommend the Bourbon Orleans, though. I never had any experiences there unfortunately.
Most haunted hotel?
I know that the Hotel Provincial is supposedly haunted; it was used as a hospital during the Civil War so there were probably a lot of deaths there. I have stayed there but didn%26#39;t have any type of ghostly experience. Also, I believe that Place d%26#39;Armes is supposed to be haunted. If I remember correctly, it used to be orphanage, or possibly a school, back in the 1800s, and there was a fire there and a lot of people died. We were told that on a ghost tour, so it may or may not be true.
Saw this on the Monteleone%26#39;s website:

Apparently, the International Society of Paranormal Research checked out the Monteleone in 2003 and hit ectoplasmic paydirt. Perhaps the Society could give you more info.
I don%26#39;t know about ghosts, but New Orleans has a very particular force-field -- a felt ';presence.'; You%26#39;ll find it, or it%26#39;ll find you. It%26#39;s an odd thing, but gentle, and very old. (TIP: You%26#39;re unlikely to encounter it on Bourbon Street!)
Please go for an after-dinner drink at Napoleon House. Check their website for hours and closing days.

There are stories on the Place d%26#39;Armes, Monteleone, Provincial, Le Richelieu, Bourbon Orleans, but as indicated the most stories over a period of time would be the Andrew Jackson despite the reviews its been getting for its condition and service.
As a former hotel employee, most haunted hotels claim such in order to entice tourists.
In November, Larry Montz%26#39;s ISPR (International Society for Paranormal Research) returns to New Orleans with Ghost Expeditions. It looks like they will have teams in the Old Mortuary and its just like Ghost Hunters on TV. You have the magnometers and temperature gauges etc. People sign up and go on an expedition at about $75 for the evening.
although this hotel isn%26#39;t a favorite I have a friend that swears she had an experience at the Historic French Market Inn.
I had an experience at the Historic French Market Inn..poor service, suite in terrible shape, and stairwell landing that had loose boards that nearly propelled me down the staircase and I can%26#39;t blame that terrible hotel experience on ghosts.
If you want an out of town experience on some trip try the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville for an overnight stay.
Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions! SlateNYC, I completely agree about the feeling a ';presence.'; I think I%26#39;ve been to New Orleans twice, and there%26#39;s no other place like it. It%26#39;s like it has a weird energy.
Yep. It%26#39;s a complex and layered ';something'; that%26#39;s accumulated over centuries. If the city loses that, it will have lost something very precious.
