I am getting ready to move my son into a new apt near Tulane%26#39;s campus in August. He is in need of some furniture (bed, sofa, dresser, etc.) Looking for contemporary pieces that are not overly expensive but good quality. Last time we shopped for furniture in the New Orelans area, it was shortly after the hurricane and many home stores had closed; some for good. Can anyone recommend where to start? Thank you!
Shopping for Furniture
I like Hurwitz-Mintz on Airline Hwy (Hwy. 61) in Metairie, near the Orleans Parish line.
Shopping for Furniture
';Hurwitz-Mintz '; The store downtown is closed isn%26#39;t it?. We always wandered through there before Katrina on our vists. Will miss it this Sat
Hurwitz did close the FQ store and only operates the Metairie store now. I, too, miss the Quarter location(s) but the real estate is probably much more valuable for housing or other retail. Several years ago, the Mintz family made a small fortune by selling their Tchoupitoulas Street warehouse to developers who created the Renaissance Arts Hotel out of the space.
I really like Georgian Furniture on Jefferson Highway, too, but it%26#39;s not cheap.
Too bad the nearest IKEA is in Houston. That stuff is great for college apartments!
Does Hurwitz Mintz carry furniture lines that are somewhat moderate in price? It appeared to be very high end on line. Interestingly, my husband and I met at Tulane and were friendly with one of the Hurwitz daughters. Did Kirschman%26#39;s close? I guess we can drive through Metairie find what we need....We actually enjoy coming back to the New Orleans area and adding to the economy!
Kirschman%26#39;s is closed, and Rooms to Go took over there sites. You might want to try them.
CajunWave, if you ever see my apartment it%26#39;s ALL Ikea....it%26#39;s really the best for college kids or young adults. I know they%26#39;re building one in florida, but I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;ll be done by the time you guys come down to NO.
