St. Louis Cemetary #3

Can anyone tell me if there are any tours of St. Louis #3? Would it be safe for two of us to go there on our own? Thank you.

The only group I recall doing #3 is the save our cemetaries inc. #3 is in the 3400 block of Esplanade. But its easy to get to by cab but a guided tour would be best as it would point out all the %26#39;highlights%26#39;.

Thank you. I havent been able to find much on the internet.

If you don%26#39;t mind me jumping in, what is unique about St. Louis #3? Where do most cemetary tours take you? I also want to do a cemetary tour but really know nothing about the different ones.

A fascinating cemetery is St. Roch, and the chapel there, google and read about it. All reports say to stay away from St. Louis 2, I must agree. It is bordered by a housing project and raised interstate. I have been there alone, which was most unwise on my part, I certainly DO NOT RECOMMEND it. While there are tours of St. Louis 1 and 3, there are no tours of #2 that I am aware of.

St. Louis #1 is the most visited. Its right beside the new Basin St. station that has tourist information etc. and is a work in progress as they have not had their Grand opening yet. Be aware that despite claims of Marie Laveau in #1..recent historian studies indicate that if it is a Laveau in the decorated tomb..its her daughters. And the triple crosses etc. were just a promo stunt done by a DJ in the 50%26#39;s and have no significance.

Last year when in New Orleans we did the Gray Line Tour of St. Louis #1 and it was very enjoyable. The reason we want to go to St. Louis #3 is because there may be some long lost relatives there. Also I love to take pictures and there seem to be more angels and decorative tombs at St. Louis #3 and I took many of St. Louis #1 last year.
