Does anyone know if the St.Charles Streetcar line is up %26amp; running??? I%26#39;d heard it wasn%26#39;t a few months back but had plans to reopen, then hit a delay or two. Interested in staying off St. Charles Ave. %26amp; taking the streetcar to the Quarter.
St.Charles StreetcarCajun Wave made a post a few weeks (maybe 2) about it, saying it wouldn%26#39;t be done totally until spring 2008. As a stalker of trip advisor, I thought you knew that!

Hiljack!
I went back %26amp; found Cajunwave%26#39;s post, thanks. Says it goes currently to Lee Circle. Wife found a good rate at the Maison St. Charles or something like that, we%26#39;re looking into it. Wanted to avoid all the taxi fees we could.
One of my favorite things to do was ride the St. Charles streetcar through uptown and look at all the mansions. I really miss it. I hope it is back by St. Patrick%26#39;s day next year.
We stayed at the Maison St. Charles a few years ago, (great rate, too), and it was fine. It was our first time staying outside of the FQ, and fun at first, until we realized that we HAD to depend on the streetcar at least twice a day. Not fun during rush hour at all, and seemed to take a lot of our precious time, running back and forth, (and waiting for cars), that we would have preferred to use strolling the FQ, enjoying a casual drink, or doing just about anything else.
If you are gonna being doing a lot of things uptown, it would be OK, but if you are gonna be in the FQ most of the time, I would recommend finding a spot closer in, and save yourself a lot of %26#39;down%26#39; time. Especially now since it will be a short streetcar ride and a short bus ride.
You%26#39;ll spend a little more the closer you get, but it%26#39;d be worth it. I%26#39;d wait %26#39;til the streetcar is back 100%, then enjoy it.
Thanks GumboK, that might just sway our decision. When you%26#39;re pressed for time during a quick weekend getaway, downtime definately comes into play. I didn%26#39;t even think about traffic. Good points.
Oh, yeah, norman22, if you%26#39;re only staying for a weekend, you want to be in the middle of the FQ. Walk out your door, and either be in the middle of the action, or be two blocks away from it. Save uptown for a longer visit.
We%26#39;ve stayed around the Quarter every trip, the wife was checking %26#39;deals%26#39; on the internet %26amp; found a queen room there for only $79/nt. Limited time offer I%26#39;m sure, that%26#39;s why we were doing some checking on the streetcar line. If solely up to me, I%26#39;d definately be in the middle of the action. Hesitant to book a less-expensive hotel in the Quarter. Last trip we found a couple that looked nice from the outside but after reading some reviews, we decided to pass. Seems like $200/nt (%26amp; the killer 3-night min.) on the special event weekends are the norm. Amazing how the hotel rates climb during their busy season. Any recommendations on cheaper hotels in the Quarter??? Open for suggestions.
Thanks!
We were in New Orleans July 1-3 never saw the street car running in that direction. The one on Canal Street was up and going.
