Cost for carriage ride

Years ago, the mule drawn carriage ride was $50/tour. Does anyone know the current rate? Thanks

French Quarter Tour, $50 (Half hour), $100 (One hour), up to four people.

Garden District Tour $150 (One and a half hours), up to four people.

There are others where you go with quite a few more people and I know those are cheaper, but I don%26#39;t know how much exactly

If you are patient and they want to fill up a carriage you will be charged about $12 per person for the French Quarter tour.

I thought I remembered it being about $50. We will do the 1/2 hr one, like I did before. There will just be two of us. The others have been to NOLA more frequently than us. My hubby has never been to NO french quarter. I think it will be a neat experience for him. I know I will love to ride the carriage again. I like to do it on the first day to reorient myself with the FQ. Thanks!

I know my wife and I took 1 last week in the evening and it was $60 for the half hour. I am sure we could have haggled a little bit, but it honestly was a fair price in my opinion for a nice romantic ride through the city streets. Our tour lasted more like an hour anyway, we stopped for drinks, check out some of the local lore and enjoyed some snuggle time together. It%26#39;s our third one in less than a year and each time it gets better, the drivers can be alot of fun and a great resource for the cities events, but honestly if you can take a night time one, far better in my opinion than the day ones. They usually are there up until 10pm at least. Have fun.

Sorry to hijack the post but has anyone done the Garden District carriage tours? We have never toured that area so I thought maybe the carriage ride would be perfect.

Thanks,

Celena

Celena.......only done the FQ carriage tour.Sorry. I bet the Garden District tour would be nice.

I have always taken the cattiage in the daytime, never thought about night. I think we might ride at night! Thanks for the idea.

I was there last month, and in the heat of the day, heard one of the guides call out to passersby - ';for tips only at this time';. Don%26#39;t know how often they do that - it was on a Sunday afternoon, and the Quarter wasn%26#39;t quite hopping yet.

I bet that%26#39;s a good idea too. We%26#39;ll be arriving around 11am Thurs. Shouldn%26#39;t be too crowded then.

Celena.......1 1/2 hr Garden District tour $150.00. Look it up on the web address provided in this thread for the carriage tours.

I used to live in the Quarter, and I was constantly amazed at the shovel loads of manure produced by these tours...and I%26#39;m NOT talking about the mules! Although I am sure there are some good buggy drivers, my experience from the sidelines is that you should not expect much in the the way of historical accuracy or knowledge on those ';tours.';

The last time I took one was when we had a friend visiting from out of town. They insisted on a buggy ride, and I went along. The tour consisted of several bad off-color jokes (mostly about drinking and displaying body parts). The ';sights'; that were pointed out by the driver were mostly very unpopular bars and tourist-trap restaurants that no local would EVER recommend (unless they were getting paid by the establishment... nah...that would never happen here!). We were even treated to a walk-up by a door barker at a particularly bad restaurant, we gave us menu, recited the days specials, and offered to fetch us a cocktail from the bar! I%26#39;m sure this little bit was totally spontaneous and completely uncompensated...NOT!

Now...I%26#39;m sure there are some good buggy drivers who aren%26#39;t just trying to use their unique position to rip-off tourists and get kickbacks from the less-than-stellar food and beverage operations in the Quarter. However, you should be forewarned about such tactics and don%26#39;t put up with it. Before you pay make it clear that you want a real tour without any of those kind of shenanigans.
