Hi,
My husband and I will be visiting New Orleans in September. This is our third trip to New Orleans and we absolutely love it. We do seem to hit a lot of tourist-trap restaurants in the quarter, though. Does anyone have any recommendations for the real deal when it comes to New Orleans dining? We%26#39;re staying in the quarter and don%26#39;t want to travel too far outside of it.
Thank you!!!!

Authentic New Orleans Restaurants--No Tourist Traps!
Mattanalli...what are some of places in the Quarter you found to be ';tourist traps?';
A short 4 block walk , out of quarter, across Canal on Magazine St. is Bon Ton Cafe...a real deal old time favorite...mostly local...do a search and read reviews.
Some of our favs when we lived in NOLA were Jacques-Imo%26#39;s Cafe, Lola%26#39;s, and D**k %26amp; Jenny%26#39;s. They%26#39;re all still open and still excellent.
wallace gave some good suggestions but none of them are near the French Quarter. I%26#39;d suggest Deanie%26#39;s seafood (Iberville/Dauphine), K-Paul%26#39;s (tourists and locals alike LOVE this place), Coop%26#39;s bar/grill on Decatur, Fiorellas for fried chicken, Praline Connection for soul food (but not for gumbo), EAT restaurant at Dumaine/Dauphine (good casual dining), Muriel%26#39;s (upscale/somewhat French/Creole), and maybe Meauxbar on Rampart.
I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d rate any of the restaurants as %26#39;tourist traps%26#39; and each has its legions of fans. Some are big name places with higher prices but the food is also excellent. And many are %26#39;local%26#39;s places as CajunWave mentioned several but they are less pricey and still with excellent food just not as a fancy place. I guess I%26#39;ve hardly met a restaurant that I wouldn%26#39;t find something good in for particular tastes. (exception to the rule is Bacco%26#39;s, Riverview, Alpine)
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful suggestions! It%26#39;s so great to hear from all of you locals and frequent visitors to really know where to eat.
I guess ';tourist trap'; might be a little harsh for the types of places we were talking about. As we told NOLA B%26amp;B earlier, Cajun Cabin definitely felt like a tourist trap. The buffet at the Court of Two Sisters wasn%26#39;t really a tourist trap, but it was a little disappointing. Living in a city (Miami/Coconut Grove) where there are lots of great restaurants but also lots of mediocre places aimed at weekend visitors, we know the value of getting local advice!
We%26#39;ve also been to several wonderful restaurants in the quarter (NOLA, The Gumbo Shop) but wanted to see if there were any lesser known places to discover! Thanks again.
Mattanalli. I didn%26#39;t mention the Court of two Sisters...the buffet food is average or lesser but others have had their menu items and liked them very much. At least with a buffet tourists can try a whole lot of different foods that are NO or southern. But even with the Jazz music and nice courtyard...I spend my money elsewhere. I like KPauls, Irenes, Muriels, Dickie brennans, Acme, Coops, Fiorello%26#39;s, Gumbo Shop, GW Fins, Arnauds. Embers advertises a lot and is nothing special but they do have good drinks and it is an experience to sit out on the balcony over Bourbon Street and a decent steak but it is definitely not the place to go for steak..Dickie Brennans is the best.
Can anyone tell me about the restaurant EAT? I wasn%26#39;t able to find anything about it on the web,so far.
There are so many good restaurant choices in NO. I%26#39;m find ing it hard to decide.
EAT.....before Katrina was the restaurant Quarter Scene; was closed for months before new group took over. It%26#39;s across from a school so they cannot sell alcohol; it%26#39;s BYOB for a corkage fee. Eaten there a few times, it%26#39;s good, has 2-3 specials, good salads and breakfast....it%26#39;s a relative newbie in FQ restaurants.
BTW paulie...I read a post from you about night spots...some 20-30 something friends tell me the Gold Mine bar on corner of St. Peter and Dauphine is a popular late night hangout for the cool ';uptown crowd';. ...hummm, not sure exactly what tht means but
thought I would pass it along.
