Dauphine Orleans, not so good?

Planning on taking a long weekend to NOLA to scatter my dad%26#39;s ashes down Bourbon St. w/hubby, mom and Mom%26#39;s friend. My Mom and I have been to NO a few times, but the others havenot. I have stayed at this hotel once before and chose it for the location but are now concerned with the comments I am reading online about the status of the hotel.

I know the hotels in the FQ are what they are...that is why I stay here. But power cords in the hallways, tiles falling from ceilings?? I read two reviews during the same time period and they could not have any different.

My intent was to have the two newbies to NO have a great time (which we will) but not have a terrible hotel experience.

So, any information other that what I have read already will be greatly appreciated. Going no matter what...Dad awaits his visit! Ha!

Dauphine Orleans, not so good?

I have stayed at some other hotels in the FQ that I recommend:

For a location 1/2 block from the very busy section of Bourbon, the Hotel St. Marie is a good choice.

Hotel Villa Convento is a little further from Bourbon but is a great small family run hotel.

Some other people on this forum like the Place d%26#39;Armes and Prince Conti.

If you don%26#39;t mind telling us, is there a story behind your dad and New Orleans?

Welcome back to New Orleans !!!

Dauphine Orleans, not so good?

I stayed at the Dauphine Orleans before Katrina and it was very nice; I don%26#39;t know how it is post-K. I have also stayed at Hotel Villa Convento several times (recommended by Porcupine150). I love the quiet location on Ursuline St. and the family that runs the hotel, the Campos, are very friendly. Another good place to stay is LeRichelieu. It is in a quiet part of the French Quarter, and we have always had very nice rooms there.

I%26#39;ll put in my usual plug for the Monteleone. You can%26#39;t go wrong there!

Porcupine150,

Well the Dad story is that my Dad LOVED NOLA. It was one of the last big trips he took before he died. Loved to gamble at Harrahs, all the usual stuff. Him and my Mom took the train from CA across country just for fun to NO.

We have spent the last few years scattering his ashes in his favorite places - Maui, Reno, Egypt (although he never wanted to go there but the Nile flows in the Mediterannean and he always wanted to go to Greece), so.....New Orleans is the last stop.

So, Friday night, Bourbon St., red rice and beans and a smattering of ole Dad. I know there are those of you who would not approve of what we will do so I will not tell you when we are taking our trip. And I certainly don%26#39;t need to hear that you don%26#39;t approve. I didn%26#39;t mention it to get any sort of negative reaction...but I trust my TA family!

So, there is the story. Think we are locked into the Dauphine...will look into maybe changing.

Thanks for listening!

Babs SC, I think that it is great that you are doing this...my husband has instructions to do exactly the same if I should die before him (except I want to be scattered on Royal or Chartres)...I want to remain in New Orleans forever.

Hope your hotel works out OK.

Thats a nice thing you are doing. Try the place d%26#39;armes, its in a good spot and nice old hotel.
