I am cruising on the Carnival Fantasy on 12/24. I have the Iberville Suites in the French Quarter booked for one night pre cruise. I have one night post cruise to plan now. I will be returning from my cruise on 12/29 ( Saturday) and flying home on Sunday 12/30. Because of the holiday weekend , all the prices of the hotels are very high. I can get a 3 star at the airport on Hotwire for $ 39 per night, but all other hotels seem to be in the high $ 100%26#39;s range. I will be traveling with two teens ( aged 16 %26amp; 18) and my DH ( 44). i am 41. My thoughts were to rent a car at the port upon return from the cruise and drive around and sightsee, and return the car at the airport that day and take the airport shuttle from the hotel over the following day in the morning. What car rental companies are near the port or offer free pickup at the port? Is this a good plan?? Should I skip the car rental?? What is there to do for my one day post cruise?? Any suggestions would be appreciated? I wanted to possibly drive around and see the areas of New Orleans being rebuilt. My husband and son are both very interested in construction. Thanks for the help in advance.
New Orleans- car rental and hotel suggestions POST cruise
I just checked hotels.com and the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel has rooms available with two double beds for that night for $90 plus tax...no minimum number of nights required like many of the hotels have on a holiday weekend. If I were you, I would try to stay in or near the French Quarter where you can be close to the action. You could rent a car from Enterprise...I don%26#39;t know if they have a location at the port, but they will pick you up. I would just rent from them, drive around town, spend the evening enjoying the French Quarter, and return the car to the Enterprise airport location the next day.
New Orleans- car rental and hotel suggestions POST cruise
Thank you so much for the suggestion. I just booked the Wyndham. I actually called and they told me it was only about a block from the port. Now I just have to set up the rental car and I%26#39;m all done. The Wyndham website actually had a family breakfast special that was $ 123 including breakfast buffet for a family of four. My DH loves those break fast buffets. Great suggestion. I just love TRIPADVISOR.
jled, glad the suggestion worked out for you! Sounds like a great time, a cruise and New Orleans, My family (husband, myself and 3 granddaughters) will be in New Orleans at the same time, arriving December 27th for five nights....I can%26#39;t wait! It is my favorite place in the whole world and I%26#39;m anxious to show it to my granddaughters. I hope your teens have a great time and that you all enjoy this beatiful city as much as we always do.
