Finally going in October!!!

I have been waiting all my life to go to NOLA and it is finally happening. (Can you tell I am a bit excited?) We will be going for our 10th anniversary and I want everything to be perfect. I have narrowed down my hotel choices based on price and reviews and I could use a little more help in choosing.

* Place d%26#39;Arms

* St. Marie

* Royal St. Charles

* Prince Conti

* Chateau Sonesta

Ok, I am looking for a hotel that is clean and not run-down. I would love a great courtyard to relax and have a drink or have breakfast, something with a nice pool maybe. Nice rooms, maybe with a balcony. The number 1 thing is location! We will not have a car so I would love to be close to everything, we will be walking and I want to soak it all in.

I know I can always count on my friends at tripadvisor to point me in the right direction. Thanks a bunch

Finally going in October!!!

';luvit';, had to reply to your post, though until after 10-10-07, I will not be able to give you a report on Place d%26#39;armes-We chose it for our special trip as well, based on reviews on this forum, and what sealed the deal was calling the hotel directly and the warm and helpful response. Our trips to NOLA span 35years-we have never stayed at Place--I know you will receive good info--also do a specific search within forum for Place d%26#39;Armes-your criteria is exactly the same as ours--ENJOY--it%26#39;s the most incredible city, with so much charm--with the people at the TOP of that list!!!

Finally going in October!!!

I have stayed at many hotels and bed and breakfasts in New Orleans over a twenty year period, but none that you have on your list. However, from what I have read posted by others on this forum, it sounds as if Place d%26#39;Arms would be perfect for you. I know the location, and it is probably the best location in the French Quarter.

I%26#39;m from Illinois, too, and New Orleans is a whole %26#39;nother world from the midwest! I%26#39;m sure you will love it, it is my favorite place in the whole world, and I have traveled a lot. The music, food and people will capture your heart.

The Place D%26#39;armes and St. Marie are ideal locations and Prince Conti also good depending upon what your plans are. The Royal St. Charles is not in the French Quarter and has had some poor reviews from some of our friends. Chateau Sonesta is also very nice and on the Canal/Bourbon/Iberville area of the quarter which is also a good location depending upon your plans.

One good thing is the blocks are short blocks in the French Quarter and the walking in the October weather is very enjoyable. I like the bistro breakfast area at the St. Marie and the lounge and also they have a nice restaurant Hillary%26#39;s and a nice courtyard and small pool. I also enjoy grabbing the complimentary croissants and coffee and sitting in one of the multiple courtyard settings at the Place D%26#39;armes near the small pool. We%26#39;ve stayed 2-3 times at the Place D%26#39;armes every year for the last 10 years and never had a problem. One we had a small room and small bathroom that they let us see before taking (last room left) and since we just wanted the best located hotel-we took the room and did fine.

Ah, I%26#39;m moving out your way soon! I%26#39;m heading back to NO in October also but I stay in small, boutique style hotels or b%26amp;b type places. I like the location of the Place d%26#39;Armes, I like that area of the quarter to stay in, plus you can easily stroll over to the Fauborg and Frenchmen Street for a night. I can%26#39;t tell you what those hotels are like inside though but I hear good things about Place d%26#39;Armes and the St. Marie.
