From nola.com:
The Pontchartrain Hotel will close to guests in two weeks as it begins a six to eight-month multi-million dollar renovation, the firm that operates the historic hotel said.
The hotel will not take new reservations during that time. Operations already have been reduced to a ';bare minimum,'; with fewer than 10 employees down from 40 to 50, said Jeff Iavarone, vice president of marketing and e-commerce for Expotel Hospitality Services, the hotel management company that operates the Pontchartrain and several other local hotels.
The ';massive overhaul'; has been in the works for three to four years, but Iavarone said the post-Katrina decline in demand makes now a perfect time to renovate.
