Hi
Planning our trip to NO next may and was thinking about an hotel in the Westwego area. Is it a safe/good area. We would get a cab over to the French Quarter from there rather than drive.
Also, what%26#39;s the weather like in may, I guess it%26#39;s hot.
Hope you can help.
Thanks in advance.
Oh, what%26#39;s traffic like in and around NO.
Westwego area
Oh goodness no! Not Westwego!!!! It%26#39;s quite a hike from New Orleans and a cab would cost you $20-25. I%26#39;d definitely spend extra to stay in the French Quarter or, at the very least, on the ';east bank'; of the Mississippi River.
Westwego area
I have stayed at the cabins at Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego many times and highly recommend them if you need a lot of room and are on a budget. But the cabins were heavily damaged during Katrina and I don%26#39;t believe that they have reopened yet, although I think that they are scheduled to re-open this fall. It was a neat experience to leave the French Quarter and return to our cabin in the state park, where it was a completely different atmosphere. On two occasions, we even saw alligators at the state park. But, the drive from the French Quarter to Westwego can seem very long after spending the day in the French Quarter. It would be pretty expensive in a cab, I think. I can%26#39;t imagine why you would want to stay in a hotel in that area, not only would it be far out of the way, it is a nuisance to travel back and forth into the Quarter. When we stayed there in the cabins, it was simply because we were traveling with a large group and needed the extra room (the cabins hold 8). If I were you, I%26#39;d forget about staying in Westwego...stay right in the French Quarter, you will be perfectly safe and that%26#39;s where all the fun is.
Hi
Thanks for the info about Westwego, it don%26#39;t look too far on Google!
Anyway, time to rethink our plans.
Okay, I will no doubt be back on here soon asking other questions.
