Dress for Commanders Palace

This will be my 4th time to New Orleans and the French Quarter and am so looking forward to returning and also helping contribute some tourism dollars. I%26#39;ve read that the dress code is relaxing in some of the restaurants but don%26#39;t want to be presuming anything. Can anybody provide some input? Thanks and happy travels to all!

Dress for Commanders Palace

I feel that the nicer one dresses, the nicer one feels.

I feel Commander%26#39;s is a once in a year or maybe two year event. I like to dress accordingly, and make it special.

Other not-so-special restaurants, dressed not-so-special.

Thanks for the response, GumboK, and I agree with you. I%26#39;ve enjoyed dressing for the Commanders Palace special experience...and it%26#39;s even nicer when others observe the same. I%26#39;ve been thinking that it would be sad to see this New Orleans tradition change in the nicer places since Katrina.

From their website:

Dress is upscale, jackets preferred at dinner.

No Shorts

Definitely wear a jacket. You are sure to get a better table that way. And it%26#39;s a special occasion, so dress the part. Have a great time.

Thanks for your website reference, Felschurch.

Bucktowncouple: great tip...thanks!

Dress up! And if it%26#39;s your birthday they let you wear a special chef hat...and one of the waiters there is a fox! Nothing like a little eye candy while you%26#39;re eating turtle soup

tanyaInStereo: thanks for the tip! We%26#39;ll be sure and tell our server that it%26#39;s my son%26#39;s birthday because we%26#39;re actually headed to New Orleans to celebrate our son%26#39;s 21st birthday. Who needs Las Vegas to celebrate a 21st when you have New Orleans and the French Quarter!

We%26#39;ll be partying there over Labor Day weekend and thus, Southern Decadence time. Should be wild and crazy...

Are you going for lunch or dinner? I was there last year , when they re opened and called the to check out the dress code. They were really helpful and stated jacket prefered but not neccessary for lunch. We did dress smartly, got a great table and it was really special. If it is a special occasion call and let them know in advance, they aske us when we booked.

Scooby32: Going to call and make the reservations tomorrow...for dinner...and will be sure to mention that we%26#39;ll be celebrating our son%26#39;s birthday.

Thanks for the input and enjoy your travels!

I highly recommend Commanders, I just got back from a week long trip and we hit most of the big name resturants and commanders was by far the most outstanding in regards to service.

Most resturants have relaxed their dress codes because they are just happy to have business, but commanders is not one. Its the only restaurant the entire week where everyone was dressed the part.

I highly recommend the bread pudding it was great and of course the turtle soup!
