Money of course is always a concern. But, we haved saved for 18 years to send our son to college. The stock market has been kind and our investments exceed his needs. Arriving by Amtrak in early August, we are planning a last family hoorah for our 18 year old son and friends, prior to college this fall.
We want to go out BIG! Suggestions on Swamp Tours, Chefs Tables, etc, etc......Any exclusive wild and crazy suggestions would be appreciated.
Once in a lifetime.
If money was not a concern???
If money were no object and you want a once in a lifetime thing, why not get a bourbon st balcony room. I only saved enough to have it during a weekend, but aside from the noise, it was something I%26#39;ll never forget. I stayed at the royal Sonesta and it was great.
If you don%26#39;t care about the balcony, go for the Monteleone, I was actually talking to the mailman in the building I work at and he noticed my pat o%26#39;s shirt (don%26#39;t tell my boss he%26#39;s at a conference in Columbus!) and we chatted for awhile about how wonderful the city is and how neither of us can wait to get back. Anyways, he said that him and his wife always stay there and it%26#39;s the most romantic place. That being said, you and your wife can stay there and your kids can get rowdy on the bourbon st balcony at the royal sonesta...they are only a block away!
If money was not a concern???
Chef%26#39;s Table at Commander%26#39;s Palace.
Breakfast at Brennan%26#39;s
If it were me, I%26#39;d stay at The Soniat House or Melrose Mansion, maybe. But considering you%26#39;ll be celebrating with 18 year olds, a balcony room at Royal Sonesta is probably a better suggestion.
We are staying at the Harrahs%26#39;s New Orleans with a river view. A friend told us the hotel is fabulous. Walking distance to everything, etc.
Our plans to date:
Arriving via train......kinda special in the South
House of Blues ( Taylor Hicks) ????
A Swamp Tour 6 person fan boat ride
French Market (shopping)
Pat O%26#39;s, Bourbon Street experience, Cat%26#39;s Meow, Crazy Korner (Sunday), Coyote Ugly
Coop%26#39;s, Maspero%26#39;s, GW Fins, Irelen%26#39;s, Nola%26#39;s
Cannot wait. Thank you for all of the suggestions.
Just an fyi, I%26#39;ve been to 2 Coyote Uglies and I still don%26#39;t see what the big to-do is all about. Some young (not that cute) girls standing on a bar, rubbing %26amp; grinding on each other, trying to work the testosterone up of the college boys standing around gawking %26amp; sipping their Miller Lts. You can see a ton more on Bourbon St. %26amp; have lots more fun. Over hyped %26amp; over priced. Never again...
You do know that the drinking age in New Orleans is 21, don%26#39;t you? I%26#39;m not sure the kids would be able to get into some of the places you mentioned.
Oops, retract that last statement. Kids CAN get into the clubs at 18, but they%26#39;re not allowed to drink.
I agree with the OP about Coyote Ugly. I%26#39;d go somewhere else. And I%26#39;d go to the Napoleon House instead of Masperos - just my personal preference. :)
Yes, I would pick definitely Napoleon House over Masperos. They might also like Lafitte%26#39;s Blacksmith Shop on Bourbon, it has a great atmosphere.
Also Napoleon House over Maspero%26#39;s...courtyard-pimms cup-mufflelatta. Someone suggested Lafitte%26#39;s. Everyone should just see the building at least being the oldest building in the French Quarter and I do like to work my way back to the piano bar at Lafitte%26#39;s.
Napoleon House hmmm........i%26#39;ve been going to NO for 25 years and do not remember ever going there. Haha that does not mean that I have never been, just don%26#39;t recall. We are very ';cool'; parents as the kids say, so alot of latitude will be allowed on their part. Hell, if I was not with them they would do the same things. At least I will be there in case they get into trouble.
Thank you again for of the suggestions and support.
