Swamp Tours & Katrina Tours

Can someone please recommend to me a company that has nice airboat swamp tours? I%26#39;ve done some research, and I%26#39;ve come across so many I don%26#39;t know which to choose!

Also, could someone recommend to me a company that offers a dignified, respectful Katrina tour? I lived in New Orleans while I was a student at Tulane, and this will be my first trip back since Katrina. I want to see the impact for myself, but without any cheeziness and tall tales.

When we recently visited New Orleans, and had a wonderful time, our plan was to take a Katrina tour, but we ended up driving ourselves around the devastated areas. Of course, if you won%26#39;t have a vehicle this becomes a moot point. I just want to add that nearly 2 years after Katrina, it was still very sobering.

In regards to the post Katrina tour, we used www.toursbyisabelle.com which did a fantastic job. They have vans which hold about 12 people max. and can go to areas that the big busses can not drive into.

Well, well worth the money and I also felt that they stuck to the facts and were very respectful to the people of NOLA. The sights were absolutely unbelievable.

We also went on the tousbyisebelle katrina tour in late may. We were picked up at our hotel, there were six of us plus the guide in a mini-van. Thought it ws informative and respectful.

I personally do not recommend the airboat tours. They are loud and scare the animals. Much more of a ';thrill'; ride than a real tour of the swamps.

Dr. Wagner%26#39;s Honey Island Swamp Tours gets good reviews. The swamp is very nice and has recovered from Katrina. Went there last week and had a nice tour with some guests from Alabama.

I have to second the post by CajunWave about the ecological damage the airboats do. They have become popular but they have become %26#39;thrill%26#39; rides and there have been accidents and casualties over the last several years. There is a lot of underwater debris still from the storm. toursbyisabelle.com is a great personalized tour that gets into all neighborhoods and the Honey Island Swamp tour is not only an education by their tour guides, taught by Dr. Wagner, but also you might see El Whoppo..an unbelievable 15 ft. gator that loves marshmellows (they think they are eggs).
