I am sending my oldest off to college at Tulane and trying to make accomodations for my wife to visit Oct 25-28 (Parents Visiting weekend). There won%26#39;t be much time at the room- so the considerations are close, cost and clean. Any suggestions about a hotel/B%26amp;amp;B uptown or where my wife can easily go back and forth to the college ? As my name suggests, I have 5 more children to send to college so cost is an issue

THere is a Hampton Inn on St. Charles Ave. is pretty close to the universities - I think it%26#39;s pretty reasonable. There is a B%26amp;B that is closer to the universities, I cannot recall the name at the moment, but I do recall reading a recent negative review of it.

The Hampton Inn on St. Charles is a great suggestion but I%26#39;ll check with my New Orleanian friend who always put up their children on the Avenue during Mardi Gras. Check Hampton Inn out on Expedia or directly with their website. It is located in a safe area with fun restaurants nearby. Our friends from the Shetland Island always loved staying at the Columns Hotel which is across the street. I%26#39;m not sure of the cost but you may want to check it out. Drinks on their veranda were always memorable.

Just a note that the St. Charles streetcar is still out of service and will be until 2008, at least as far as the stretch near Tulane University is concerned. A bus is running the route but frequencies aren%26#39;t so hot.

I would not recommend Parkview Guest House based on reviews, although it%26#39;s right across from the campus. I think the Hampton Inn on St. Charles or maybe the Grand Victorian B%26amp;B would be better choices.

thanks for the suggestions; the hampton inn and columns are sold

out. I was thinking of the Prince Conti Hotel, 5 Continents B %26amp; B or Margaret Gardens Inn. None seem too far from St Charles so my wife can walk to that street and take the bus to Tulane. At night I assume the area will be lively so a walk is not a problem. Am I on course ?

prince Conti is a fine hotel and the Bombay Club is right there if you are a martini fan..great grilled salmon also..

I just did a search on hotels.com and she could get a room at the Embassy Suites for $123 per night and I believe that includes a full breakfast. If it were me, I%26#39;d prefer to stay right in the French Quarter (Prince Conti), but to catch the bus to Tulane the Embassy Suites might be more convenient.

I had to look up Five Continents, which is on Esplanade near I-10. Not convenient at all for St. Charles Avenue. Neither is the Prince Conti, to be honest. Of the three you mentioned, Margaret Gardens seems to be closest to the bus line on St. Charles.

Try the Chimes or Grand Victorian B%26amp;Bs. Both get great reviews are are located Uptown.

I agree with Cajunwave - I haven%26#39;t stayed at either of those, but it%26#39;s more convenient than your other options. Even if you stay at the Embassy Suites, I%26#39;d just catch a cab uptown and back - I would not waste my time waiting for the very unreliable bus!
