need help in finding a hotel to host our dinner for 200 people
suggestions wanted on bourbon orleans or royal sonesta
wedding plans
We almost had our wedding at the Bourbon Orleans but opted for the St Louis Hotel. Don%26#39;t think that would be an option though since you are having 200 people. The wedding planner at the Bourbon Orleans was super nice and it was our second choice. I don%26#39;t know anything about the food but the ballroom is nice. Royal Sonesta is a wonderful hotel but I don%26#39;t think the set up was right for us so we didn%26#39;t consider it. We had our rehearsal dinner at Muriels. They have dining rooms upstairs by the seance room. Great food and atmosphere. Service was ok. We looked at Broussard%26#39;s also. They have a special area for large dinners. I enjoy their food. They had a wedding there when we were down in April and it looked very nice. I think there is a link on nola.com to get in touch with someone to help with the wedding. They were very helpful to us. Even sent us some wedding beads!

at the royal sonesta they are really bad with follow up and I%26#39;ve heard a few people talk about trying to plan/book events there and not getting too much in the way of anyone calling them
Thank you for your response Timmy 485 and Tanya in Stereo
We looked at the Royal Sonesta and found it difficult to talk to the catering department. They did not return our phone calls and emails on a timely basis. Sometimes we never got a call or email back at all. It is a shame because they have nice rooms to have a party but not a very good party planner to work with. We also did not like their hotel rooms but they have a beautiful lobby.
The Bourbon Orleans has been very efficient and easy to work with.
Everyone we spoken with has been pleasant and the hotel rooms were nice with large bathrooms. The ballroom is very large and beautiful as well.
Has anyone had a dinner at the Bourbon Orleans within the last 12 months.
Not that you asked, and it is not a hotel, but I attended an event at Arnaud%26#39;s (which is near those hotels) a few months ago that had at least 250 people attending. I couldn%26#39;t have been more impressed. The service was flawless, the food was outstanding (filet mignon perfectly cooked - no easy task for 250 people) - you get a real New Orleans experience there. I would highly recommend it.
Also, I personally have used the Napoleon House as a reception site, although I don%26#39;t know if they could fit 200 people for a sit-down dinner, but maybe they could. That is also a stone%26#39;s throw from several FQ hotels. I would do something like that rather than have a hotel do it, but that%26#39;s just my 2 cents! :)
thanks for the information supremecourt25
i did call arnauds and they were very nice but would only serve one entree. we would like to offer our guests at least another choice for their entree such as chicken or fish. The dinners and drinks can cost up to $160.00 per person and they do not have a open bar package.
I just checked on Napoleon House and it looks like a fun place for a dinner but they can only seat 60 people.
one of our problems in finding a restaurant is that we want a seated dinner or buffet dinner with seating for everyone!!
I%26#39;m a fan of the Bourbon Orleans and a regular guest. Their ballroom is on the 2nd floor of the main historic building, with winding staircase from the lobby, from the old placege%26#39; cotillions. The rest of the hotel is three newer buildings, connected, wrapped around a lovely courtyard where I have seen several receptions take place. Their %26#39;restaurant%26#39; is,however, a small section off of the end of the lobby. I can%26#39;t say how they handle catering in their ballroom. Either contacted out, or ? But for all my needs, their staff have been always professional and very attentive.
.
Next, the St. Louis has a famous restaurant (Louis XIV) that is or has come back since Katrina, and another nice courtyard. But as a hotel, if you want to stay in the same place, is a bare two-star with serous problems in condition and service reputation. But they would be a good possible if you are looking just for a restaurant and attached courtyard (don%26#39;t know if they have a separate ballroom) and not a place for guests to sleep.
I haven%26#39;t personally been to the upstairs at either Napoleon House or Muriel%26#39;s, but that is what both places are designed andknown for. It would depend on the number of people they can hold, and the menus, and costs, they can quote you. 200 might be too uch for either of their spaces.
(You%26#39;re throwing a party for 200, in the Quarter? Invite me!! I clean up well. I%26#39;m also ordained. :)
For property, I would recommend the Bourbon Orleans hotel ballroom. Just don%26#39;t know where they get their food/cooking. Perhaps if you place a new posting, and put in the header something like ';Bourbon Orleans Catering, anyone know?';
And even ask their manager to provide names and numbers of references
Upstairs at the Napoleon House and also Muriel%26#39;s would be too small for 200 people.

Just wanted to let you know that we called the bourbon orleans and asked for references.
we also checked out muriels and they have a lovely room upstairs but it would not workout for us. We would like for all of our guests to be able to be in the same room while eating dinner.
You also must ';buy out'; the entire restaurant.
As for St. Louis XVI it also was not large enough for a seated dinner for 200 people.
We have found that it is very difficult to find a restaurant that can accomodate our size wedding party. The hotels are the only way to go for us.
